My child receives Speech Therapy in school.  Why should we seek private therapy?

School based therapy primarily addresses concerns that have an educational impact on the child’s school performance.  Connecticut State guidelines dictate eligibility criteria for Service Delivery in schools; often times a child is found ‘ineligible’ for school based therapy, yet there is still a concern.

Clinically/home based therapy focuses on the impact on the child’s entire life.  There is more freedom to incorporate Activities of Daily living, family members, play skills, social skills, etc.

What do you mean, “Principles of ABA”?

ABA, or Applied Behavioral Analysis uses a systematic approach to change or modify behaviors.  These behaviors usually focus around socially appropriate interactions and communication.  Your child's therapist will utilize these principles to modify or shape communicative exchanges, when appropriate.

What is PROMPT Therapy?

PROMPT is a specific tactile kinesthetic cueing system used to help children with speech disorders. PROMPT therapy is useful for a wide range of clients with communication disorders. The most common clients have motor speech disorders, articulation problems or are non-verbal children.  More information can be found at
