A Hands-On workshop series for Parents and Caregivers of children with Special Needs

Part I: Family Game Night

Bring Your Own….Game!  This interactive workshop will help you “think outside the box” and illustrate various ways to modify some popular household games for increased language and learning opportunities and family fun for everyone!  Bring along a game from home and learn ‘new’ ways to play ‘old’ games with your child. (Parents only)

Part II: Make and Take Visual Schedules

This hands-on workshop will walk you though the steps of making your own visual supports for home and community outings.  If you’re looking for a great way to stay on a schedule during school breaks and vacations, this workshop is for you. Parents are encouraged to bring digital pictures of motivating items specific to home, and will also have an opportunity to use ‘stock’ photos as well.  Families will be able to print and laminate their icons for use at home.

Part III: Helping Hands

Looking for ways to involve your child in household activities?  The conclusion to the workshop series encourages parents to breakdown household activities into manageable parts to foster independence and a sense of accomplishment while incorporating language-rich social dialogue.  Various reinforcement systems for task completion will also be discussed.  (Parents only)
